If you live in Clarendon Hills, keeping up with recycling rules, yard waste stickers, and e‑waste days can feel like a moving target. Between set‑out times, holiday delays, and registration windows, it is easy to miss a detail. This guide simplifies what to set out, when to set it out, and where special items should go so you can stay on schedule and avoid surprises. Let’s dive in.
Lakeshore Recycling Systems (LRS) provides residential refuse, recycling, and yard waste service for Clarendon Hills. For service questions, call LRS at 844‑633‑3577; for village billing or policy questions, contact Village Hall at 630‑286‑5400. You can review current village rules on the Clarendon Hills Refuse & Recycling page.
LRS offers 35‑, 65‑, and 95‑gallon carts. Recycling is single stream and you can set out unlimited recyclables without stickers. See cart and recycling details on the LRS Clarendon Hills service page.
Set carts out by 6:00 AM on collection day, and not earlier than 30 minutes after sunset the evening before per the Village. LRS advises placing carts between 7:00 PM the night prior and 6:00 AM the day of service. Collection typically runs between about 7:00 AM and 5:00 PM. Confirm current guidance on the Village page.
LRS observes six holidays: New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day. If a holiday falls on or before your regular day, service is delayed one day that week. Holiday policies are posted on the Village page.
Clarendon Hills is divided by the BNSF tracks. If you live north of the tracks, pickup is Monday. If you live south of the tracks, pickup is Tuesday. Unincorporated addresses may differ, so verify through the Village or LRS.
You may set out one bulk item per week that is 50 pounds or less and allowed in Illinois landfills. Extra or oversized items require stickers or scheduled pickup through LRS. For heavy items, contact LRS to arrange service via the LRS Clarendon Hills service page.
Mattresses must be wrapped in plastic before set‑out. This protects drivers and helps prevent pest spread. If you are unsure about an item, call LRS before collection day.
Yard waste service for 2025 began March 31, and collection occurs on your normal pickup day. Stickers are required for yard waste set‑outs from April through September. During October and November, LRS provides unlimited collection of yard waste containers and bagged leaves on your normal day, and no stickers are required in those months. See the current rules on the Village Refuse & Recycling page.
You can typically buy yard waste stickers at Village Hall, Jewel on 55th, and Clarendon Hills Hardware downtown. Retailers can change, so confirm locations on the Village website before you go.
Live Christmas trees are collected curbside for free during January on your regular day. Remove all decorations and do not bag the tree. Artificial trees and garland are not included. Details are posted on the Village page.
Clarendon Hills has semi‑annual curbside e‑waste pickups run by LRS. In 2025, the events were held on May 5, 2025 and October 20, 2025. Registration is required by the posted deadlines, which in 2025 were May 1 at 5:00 PM and October 16 at 5:00 PM. Check the LRS e‑waste pickup page for the next dates and to register.
Accepted items commonly include TVs, monitors, computers and laptops, printers, gaming consoles, cell phones, keyboards, mice, stereo equipment, small household appliances like microwaves and toasters, and cables or cords. Exclusions often include items with refrigerants such as refrigerators and air conditioners, dehumidifiers, vehicle batteries, smoke detectors, thermostats, and light bulbs. For the definitive list, use the LRS registration form on the event page or the LRS Clarendon Hills service page.
For placement, LRS often instructs you to place smaller items in a clear bag or box labeled “E‑WASTE,” and to set TVs and monitors separately from carts and trash. Follow the current instructions on the LRS event guidance page.
Why the special handling? Illinois law bans many electronic devices from landfills, so they must be collected and recycled through approved programs. You can read more about the state framework on the Illinois electronics recycling information page.
Household hazardous waste (HHW), such as oil‑based paints, pesticides, solvents, automotive fluids, some batteries, fluorescent bulbs, and propane tanks, is not accepted in regular refuse. DuPage area residents can use the Naperville Household Hazardous Waste facility at 156 Fort Hill Drive, typically open Saturdays and Sundays from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM. Always confirm hours, accepted items, and any appointment rules on the Naperville HHW page. The Illinois EPA also posts one‑day HHW collection events statewide on the IEPA materials management page.
Large appliances that contain refrigerants, like refrigerators, dehumidifiers, and air conditioners, require certified handling. Contact LRS or a certified appliance recycler for safe removal. Guidance is available on the LRS Clarendon Hills service page.
For batteries and small devices, some items can be taken through retailer take‑back programs or to regional drop‑offs. Check the Naperville recycling drop‑off center resources for current options.
